Samuel Marlow is a costume designer and manufacturer with more than ten years of experience making costumes for theatre, motion picture, photo shoots, events and special occasions.

Experienced with low and moderately budgeted productions, Sam understands the necessity to balance budget with artistic vision. Entirely self-taught through years of experience, Sam can bring a fresh perspective to your project or production.

Sam has creating costumes in historical styles using period-correct materials and construction to create beautiful, durable costumes that will last for years to come. Sam has also designed and manufactured costumes in a fantasy and science fiction style, and can create short runs or one-off pieces, as well as multiples of the same piece for continuity purposes.

Samuel Marlow Costumes has created dozens of unique costumes in styles from historical to futuristic, realistic to fantastic, using modern and traditional construction methods with natural and synthetic materials. With over a decade of experience in costuming for theatre, Sam understands the rigours that costumes must endure, and creates pieces to be sturdy and often machine-washable to ensure they stay looking great and smelling fresh for performance after performance. Actor and performer comfort is carefully considered, choosing materials, cuts and inner structures to help performers maintain a comfortable temperature and suitable range of motion.

As the damage of fast-fashion has become more apparent in the fast few years, Samuel Marlow Costumes considers the environmental impact of the pieces we create. Taking durability and longevity into account when selecting materials and suppliers, we avoid synthetic fabrics where it is feasible to do so, and much of the leather we use is bought as offcuts from the upholstery industry. All our pieces are made by hand in our workshop in Kent, England.

Costume Design

Are you looking to put a distinctive design stamp on your production or event with beautiful, unique costumes? Get in touch to find out how we can help. Sam carefully considers how designs will be constructed, ensuring that pieces are not impossible to make in a realistic way, and can be created at a reasonable cost.

Costume Manufacture

We can work from an existing design, or work with the creative team to design and create costumes for stage, screen, and photoshoots, as well as live events, special occasions, and for museums exhibits and displays.

Costume Hire

Samuel Marlow Costumes has a modest, but ever-expanding collection of costumes from previous productions available to hire at a reasonable price. We will be uploading a catalogue of items in the new year, so please feel free to contact us in the mean time to discuss how we can help you.
